Whenever you purchase new bedding you should wash it before using it.
Silk is easy to care for and dries quickly too.
For your first wash you should add a cup of epsom salts or half a cup of fine sea salt inside the machine plus your normal washing powder/liquid
Wash on cold water setting. Hang on line to dry.
Epsom Salts is very fine sea salt that is gentle to use but any sea salt will achieve the same result - that is to bind the colour of your bedding to prevent it fading.
Future washes - omit the salt and just cold wash with your normal washing powder / liquid.
I do not believe you need a fabric softener.
